The vision is a network of 7.7 metre wide dedicated and separated cycleways completely separated from parked and moving vehicles.<br /><br />Cycling Super Highways (CSH) are not about cycling at high speed or riding an expensive bicycle nor are they about ‘existing cyclists’ cycling more.<br /><br />CSH are about more people cycling more safely more of the time; kids cycling to schools, mums with cargo bikes cycling to the supermarket, time-poor professionals without time to go to the gym cycling to work and retirees cycling to the RSL club to play the pokies! CSH are all of us cycling regardless of our age, our physical abilities and our cycling skills.<br /><br />The CSH concept is a CSH are wide to cater for everyone; sports cyclists in training, social cyclists cycling side by side, young children with stabilisers learning to ride a bike and commuters enjoying their journey to work. CSH are wide to provide space for two cyclists to cycle side by side (because cycling is the most sociable mode of transport!) and for faster moving cyclists to safely overtake. CSH are wide to cater for rising population, changes in travel behaviour and to support land use intensification. CSH are surrounded by Transit and Bicycle Oriented Developments, adaptable and affordable and climate responsive housing and car –free and low-car mixed use commercial and residential developments. <br /><br />CSH can help to address the many crisis’ we currently face; obesity, poor health, rising transport costs and car dependency.<br /><br />CSH is NOT associated with government policies, government strategies or design standards.
